During a long career as a general building contractor, it became clear to me that most people thinking about building a new home—or even undertaking a major remodel—often don’t know where to start. In many cases, this lack of understanding leads them into an expensive relationship with an architect or designer without really knowing what to expect. I always wished they had talked to someone like me first. That conversation could have answered so many initial questions before spending big dollars.
